9th May - Introduction to Royal Icing

This short workshop is the perfect introduction to Royal Icing for improvers and advanced students alike. You’ll learn how to professionally make royal icing using traditional methods & ingredients; make your own greaseproof paper piping bag, piped patterns and lettering skills with royal icing. Should we have time spare you will be shown how to apply a gold gilding finish.

What you will learn: The class will cover a variety of techniques which will be transferable for you to adapt to your own cake-decorating projects. • How to cover a cake dummy with fondant/roll-out icing/regal ice. • How to cover a cake board/drum • How to make Royal Icing the traditional way. • How to adapt the recipe with flavourings • How to make a greaseproof paper piping bag • Piping letters and messages. • Piping intricate patterns and artwork. • How to paint with gold lustre to achieve a gilded effect finish What we provide: We provide all the ingredients. We have a fully equipped, purpose-designed studio, and will provide all the tools and equipment you need during the class and a box to take your cake home in. (light refreshments provided).
